I know this is one of those things that keeps you up at night. You toss and turn for hours wondering about that age old question, “Is Nutella really the best?”, “Is Nutella worth the price?”, “Is that store brand just as good?”. Yes, that is more than one question, that is how much it is bothering you. But don’t worry we have taken care of this issue, once and for all, well at least for us.
We took five, not one, (what would be the point of one), not two, not three, not four, but five of the leading (well at least what was at our store) Nutella-esc alternatives. And did a blind test test with five of the world’s (or at least my household’s) finest taste testers.

No, the booze did not impair our judgment. It was used to enhance our palate
Each brand was put on a plate with a label on the bottom of what it was. Then without the preparer in the room, the plates were mixed up. Now no one knew what was what. We then used poker chips (poker chips seemed right given the other enhancements) to score the products. Blue was first place, red was second place and white was third.
Oh one note, some of these were peanut butter based and some were hazelnut based.

Each of our expert taste testers, using our drink (currently called the Nathan Special) for enhancement, carefully sampled one product. And then compared it to the next one. We slowly worked through each item, adjusting our verdict as we went. We had no specific criteria other than what we felt was the best tasting.
Drum Roll Please
And the winner was….

Yes, believe it or not, Walmart’s Great Value brand got the most blue chips and Nutella came in last. But we felt all three of these were better than any of the peanut butter based options. All of those just tasted like peanut butter.
